Speaker of the Parliament meets the President of the Bureau of the European Congress of Local Authorities, Mr. Keith Whitmore and other representatives of this Congress

The Speaker of the Parliament received the President of the Bureau of the European Congress of Local Authorities, Mr. Keith Whitmore and other members of the Congress.

The Congress of Local authorities of Europe organized the forum of the Bureau in Tirana, in the framework of Albanian Chairmanship of the Council of Europe, with the participation of local government representatives from European countries.

During the meeting, the Speaker of the Parliament welcomed the delegation of local authorities and thanked them for the support given Albania in the entire democratic processes. Mrs. Jozefina Topalli said that Albanian’s Chairmanship of CoE in this 100 Anniversary of the creation of the state, marks a great historic event for Albania during the mandate of which important activities will be organized.

The President of the Bureau of the European Congress of Local Authorities, Mr. Keith Whitmore said that Albania marked an extraordinary progress and that CoE Chairmanship is a deserved responsibility. He congratulated the Speaker of the Parliament for the process of President Election as a challenge successfully faced.

Further on, the conversation focused on the issue of local government, dealt with by the Bureau of Europe’s local authorities in the forum of Tirana. The Speaker of the Parliament stated that local government is very important for the citizens because in its structures are defended the interests and community’ participation. In the meeting there were also assessed the very important steps Albanian institutions have undertaken for the decentralization of local government.
